B’bye Tony

Wayne Gagnon- Big Foot

“B’bye Tony”

by Wayne Gagnon
with inspirations from the staff at
Academic Computing, OIT, UMass Amherst

(for Tony)

We’re meeting for lunch…
…(yes) we’re having a feast.
Our Tony’s grown up…
…and he’s moving back East.

You leave your impression…
…(and) leave a hole in our day.
Who else will stop by…
…and ask if everything is OK?

Bigfoot and Nessie…
…and cryptids galore.
They’re all gonna miss you…
…as you head out the door.

Consultants have noticed…
…your socks and your shoes.
How they’re lacking variety…
…(and) they’re lacking bright hues.

When you’re wearing a tie…
…there’s a workshop or training.
And you wear your trench coat…
…even when it’s not raining.

When were all in a mode…
…and the day is a hassle,
To the meeting room we’ll go…
…and play some Action Castle
[Castle-Castle-Castle]

With purple-ish shirts…
…we salute your attire.
Consensus we have…
…(you’re) not a bad guy to hire.

Stop by when you can…
…we wish you much luck.
Enjoy your next gig…
…(and, please) take a rubber duck.

NOTE: My friend, German, likes to call these little pieces of art “Waynelings.”  I gave him this packet of cards as he was headed out on another of life’s adventures.  “Thanks for the pep-in-a-packet,” he said.

Cognac and Candy

Wayne Gagnon - Cognac and Candy

“Cognac and Candy”

by Wayne Gagnon
(for Jennifer)

Cognac and candy…
…and everything between.
Things we expected…
…and things not foreseen.

Laughter and teardrops…
…and every such mood.
Bubbles and bandaids…
…and thoughts not subdued.

Manly and girly…
…and some you can’t tell.
Dance with whomever…
…they’ll all treat you well.

Sunshine and hailstorms…
…and days that we skipped.
Drinks that we guzzled…
…and ones we sipped.

Cognac and candy…
…and everything between.
Things we expected…
…and things not foreseen.

Three Things

by Wayne Gagnon

My good friend, Thing One…
…has a story. (That’s fun!)
sHE’ll sing and sHE’ll prance…
…sHE might save you a dance.

My good friend, Thing Two…
…likes your foot (and your shoe).
sHE’ll talk and sHE’ll think…
…sHE might buy you a drink.

My good friend, Thing Three…
…asks “What about me?”
sHE’ll chat and write prose…
…sHE might get you a rose.

Things One, Two (and Three)…
…are beckoning thee.
They’ll call and they’ll call…
…they might give you their all.

Dirty Pants

Wayne Gagnon - Cowgirl Chores

“Dirty Pants”

by Wayne Gagnon
(for Katie and Sherry)

Lovely, lovely cowgirls…
…wearing dusty draw’rs
Shovels, rakes and pitchforks…
…doing all your chores.

Happy, happy cowgirls…
…sportin’ dirty jeans.
Almost left me speechless…
…I wonder what that means.

Rowdy, rowdy cowgirls…
…wearing mucky pants.
Feed ‘em lots o’ butterscotch…
…and watch those ladies prance.

Dirty, dirty cowgirls…
…make my mind go wand’ry.
Perhaps a small suggestion…
…time to do some laundry.

My Ladies

Wayne Gagnon - My Ladies Flowers Mug

“My Ladies”

by Wayne Gagnon
(for Jennifer and Laura)

My ladies in my life…
…you share a cup of tea.
Became each others’ wife…
…yet, saved some time for me.

My ladies in my world…
…you share a glass of wine.
Your lives have both been swirled…
…I think you’re quite divine.

My ladies in my space…
…you share a shot of rum.
With big and small embrace…
…each day will lose its glum.

My ladies in my sphere…
…another cup of tea.
Accept my happy tear…
…a gift to you from me.

Yester-LUNCH

“Yester-LUNCH”

by Wayne Gagnon

Today I feast…
…on yester-LUNCH

Mis-ported meal…
…of yester-MUNCH

On the mend…
…from yester-PUNCH

Rescued repast…
…of yester-CRUNCH

(Yes…) Today I feast…
…on yester-LUNCH

“Pretend Friend”

by Wayne Gagnon

Hopeful yet wary…
…he’s jus’ imaginary.
Somewhat naive…
…(with) secrets to carry.

With heart on a sleeve…
…he’s only make-believe.
Boundless appeal…
…(and) persistent qui vive.

Such passion and zeal…
…his presence is not-real.
Setting the trend…
…(with) imperfect ideal.

Beginning to end…
…he is naught but pretend.
Cheerful and merry…
…(and) a mischievous friend.

No Tricks, No Treats (2011)

Wayne Gagnon - Halloween Trick or Treat 2011

“No Tricks, No Treats (2011)”

by Wayne Gagnon
(for those who endured and for the sad children)

No tricks…
..no treats…
…for us today…
As snowflakes fall…
…the branches sway.

No tricks…
..no treats…
…for us tonight…
Hunkering down…
…with a wint’ry fright.

No tricks…
..no treats…
…for us this week…
The power’s out…
…warm shelter we seek.

No tricks…
..no treats…
…for us this year…
(With) weather like this…
…December seems near!

No tricks…
..no treats…
…for us today…
The snowflakes fall…
…and branches sway.
