Mrs. O’Lady

Wayne Gagnon - Mrs. O'Lady - Flower Bouquet

“Mrs. O’Lady”

by Wayne Gagnon

Mrs. O’Lady…
…has silv’ry locks
She makes magical sculptures…
…with mud and with rocks

Mrs. O’Lady…
…lives high on a ridge
She sings her sweet songs…
…as she skips ‘cross the bridge

Mrs. O’Lady…
…comes out at mid-day
She’ll dance down the street…
…with fresh-picked bouquet

Mrs. O’Lady…
…has plenty to share
She’ll mend all your woes…
…with love and with care

Schmutz and Jam

Wayne Gagnon - Nose Feet Schmutz Jam

“Schmutz and Jam”

by Wayne Gagnon

Runny nose…
…and smelly foots?
Toes got jam…
…and nose got schmutz?

Scrub the foots…
…and blow the nose!
Buy your mom…
…a lovely rose!

“Play for the Pink Giraffe”

By Wayne Gagnon
(for Spencer)

The pink giraffe (on Saturday)…
…off exit twenty-two.
Sign your name and form a line…
…and she will listen to you.

Play your song and play it well…
…that’s what you came here for.
If she likes the way you play…
…she’ll ask you back for more.

“Wand’ring Mister Elephant”

By Wayne Gagnon (a vicarious traveler)

Wand’ring Mister Elephant…
…you travel here and there.
You swim beneath the ocean…
…and float high in the air.

Wand’ring Mister Elephant…
…you travel South and West.
You share exciting stories…
…of every little quest.

Wand’ring Mister Elephant…
…you travel near and far.
You send me lots of postcards…
…to tell me where you are.

Wand’ring Mister Elephant…
…you travel North and East.
Visit me next April…
…I’ll treat you to a feast.

Her Winter

Wayne Gagnon - Her Winter

“Her Winter”

by Wayne Gagnon

Where are all her pretty flowers?
Her winter is so brown.
With ebb and flow of brilliant hues…
…the ebb will drag her down.

Where are all her summer days?
Her winter hordes them so.
Summer days are always fast…
…while winter days are slow.

Where are all her crystal lakes?
Her winter locks them tight.
Waiting for the vernal warmth…
…she pines them through the night.

Where are all her mourning doves?
Her winter sent them forth.
Cold and quiet morning tea…
…await their journey north.

Where are all her pretty flowers?
Her winter is so gray.
Waiting for those brilliant hues…
…throughout each short, dark day.

Plastic Cups

“Plastic Cups”

by Wayne Gagnon

Perfect storms of plastic cups…
…we’re losing grasp of downs and ups.

Plastic cups have sharpest edge…
…(yet) we talk each other off the ledge.

Fill our cups with wine so sweet…
…another storm we choose to beat.

Searching for a Prince

Wayne Gagnon - Maiden

“Searching for a Prince”

by Wayne Gagnon
(for A.)

Maiden, dear Maiden…
…where is your prince?
He fell from your dreams…
…(and) you’ve not seen him since.

You searched damp, swampy bogs…
…and found nothing but frogs.

You searched old country roads…
…and saw nothing but toads.

You searched forests and lakes…
…and met nothing but snakes.

Maiden, sweet Maiden…
…what should you do?
Keep open your dreams…
…your prince will find you.
